The original Derby jetty was built in 1885 and replaced in 1964 by the current steel and concrete structure.
The Shire of Derby West Kimberley has held the lease and management agreements for the Port of Derby area since 1997, inclusive of the wharf and boat ramp and marine surrounds. The current lease and management agreements expire in 2040.
Kimberley Ports Authority (KPA) operates under the auspices of the Port Authorities Act 1999 which covers vestment of the port land and waters; and a range of obligations from trade development, infrastructure planning and maintenance, to caring for the environment and ensuring safety.
KPA and SDWK will work together to develop and grow the use of the port as trade opportunities arise.
