Port of Broome Wharf Extension Works

Kimberley Ports Authority has commenced construction on a wharf extension to provide storage and space for an amenity building for personnel working on the wharf. The works are part of the Wharf Efficiency project that saw the wharf shed removed and deck reinstated, see image below.

The extension will be installed, with a crane working from the wharf, and there will be some additional safety controls for traffic and pedestrian management, and berthing arrangements for customers using berths 6 and 12 during construction. The deck will be a steel structure topped with precast concrete. It is expected the works will be finalised in June 2025.

KPA passed an EPA process for the installation works and will engage a Nyamba Buru Yawuru marine fauna monitor to observe and monitor sea life during the works.

A tender has been advertised on Tenders WA for the construction of the amenity building with applications closing at the end of March 2025. The building construction will not commence until the extension is completed. Employees are looking forward to having permanent upgraded facilities on the wharf.
