Kimberley Marine Support Base Pty Ltd Proposal
2 Oct 2019

On September 20, 2019 the previous Minister for Ports, announced the State Government’s approval of the lease agreements at the Port of Broome to enable the Kimberley Marine Support Base project to proceed to the next stage.

The proposed $160 million facility will be constructed and funded by Kimberley Marine Support Base (KMSB) Pty Ltd, and comprises of a floating marine offloading facility, along with associated on-shore terminal facilities. The KMSB facility will be located to the south of the Port of Broome wharf and will provide complimentary facilities for maritime trade and tourism.

Kimberley Ports Authority (KPA) and KMSB negotiated a range of leases which are conditional on KMSB finalising the necessary environmental and cultural heritage approvals; attracting finance and appointing a facility operator. KMSB is still to appoint a facility constructor which will enable the finalisation of the design and engineering elements of the new multiuser facility.

KPA is optimistic the project will stimulate development, employment opportunities and provide benefits to both Broome and the region.
