The Kimberley Ports Authority has facilitated the arrival of trailers of food at the Port of Broome Slipway due to the closure of the Great Northern Highway.

Bhagwan Marine’s barge Seawind 1 left Dampier last Sunday January 8 bound for Broome and arrived Wednesday January 11 for unloading.

Acting CEO Luke Westlake stated, “KPA has installed a depth post, and five tonne anchor to assist the barge master unloading at the Slipway.

The arrival of the barge was tide dependent and unloading was finalised in the early evening after the addition of cement blocks and dirt to attain the correct angle for the barge ramp.”

Three trailers of food are to be distributed to Broome Supermarkets by Centurion Transport.

Two trailers of food, and fuel will be barged to Derby by CMC Marine and delivery is expected on Sunday January 15.

KPA’s Harbourmaster flew over King Sound to check for noticeable debris and has closed the Port of Derby to recreational boating up to Saturday January 14 to ensure the safety of Derby residents.

“Kimberley Ports Authority is assisting Mount Gibson Iron with fuel and freight deliveries to Koolan Island while the Great Northern Highway is closed between Roebuck Roadhouse and Willare,” added Acting CEO Luke Westlake.
