The Port of Wyndham was gazetted in 1886 and serviced the cattle industry and gold prospectors with vessels berthing at the original jetty at Anton’s Landing.
The Ord River District Co-operative Ltd was awarded control of the port in 1999, and after a restructure Cambridge Gulf Ltd (CGL) assumed the lease and management of the port until June 2021.
The Kimberley Ports Authority (KPA) undertook a Request for Proposal process for the lease and management of the port with CGL being the successful applicant. The current lease and management agreements expire in 2031.
Kimberley Ports Authority (KPA) operates under the auspices of the Port Authorities Act 1999 which covers vestment of the port land and waters; and a range of obligations from trade development, infrastructure planning and maintenance, to caring for the environment and ensuring safety. KPA has a regional Harbourmaster who be responsible for marine safety and security.
KPA and CGL will work together to develop and grow the use of the port as trade opportunities arise.
