Heaviest crane lift in the Port of Broome’s history
24 Nov 2022

Kimberley Ports Authority undertook a 72tonne heavy lift from the vessel Normand Saracen on Wednesday November 9, 2022 - the heaviest crane lift in the Port of Broome’s history.

The lift involved INPEX cargo known as a ‘Christmas Tree’ This involved advanced planning to ensure the lift weight was within the Mobile Harbour Crane’s 80 tonne capability.

KPA purchased the $5M Mobile Harbour Crane (MHC) in 2020 to improve the port’s heavy lifting capacity and to provide operational efficiencies to customers. The crane enables heavy lifts at Port of Broome instead of customers needing to use the ports of Darwin or Perth.

MHCs are purpose built for utilisation at ports and are highly efficient in handling general cargo, project cargo, containers and bulk materials.
